Archipelago
is a new Italian ensemble in the field of early music. It was
created by Lorenzo Colitto, whom, after years of collaboration
with some of the most prestigious groups in Europe and the United
States and attention in researching the music still to be discovered,
wishes to establish his identity in the music scene and help
close some of the gaps.
His activity as leader of some of the most important early music
groups in Europe and United States and collaboration with prestigious
musicians in the early music scene pushed him to create a new
group with whom to express the culmination of a decade of experiences.
Mr. Colitto's years with Fabio Biondi and Europa Galante constituted
a highly appreciated artistic pairing.
Archipelago enjoys several notable collaborators of the highest
acclaim that Lorenzo Colitto already had the chance to perform
with. Among the invited musicians are the young and much sought
after Italian contralto Sonia Prina, the versatile baritone
Furio Zanasi and the highly acclaimed Spanish soprano Marta
Almajano. Another important partner is the oboist Alfredo Bernardini.
Archipelago has assumed the task of rediscovering and performing
music of the XVII and XVIII century, with an emphasis on string
repertoire. According to the program, wind players and singers
will be added.
Attracted by the musicality and the skill demonstrated by the
Italian violinist, many international promoters and musical
organizers have already shown their interest in Archipelago.
In addition, the first recording of the group is scheduled for
next year.
