Lorenzo Colitto, director
Born in Rome Lorenzo Colitto studied at the Conservatory of
Santa Cecilia. During his studies he performed with many ensembles
in Europe, Japan, Canada and the USA. In 1993 he began studying
historical performance practice. He furthered his studies
at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland with Thomas
Hengelbrock. In 1994 he performed with the European Union
Baroque Orchestra under the direction of Roy Goodman, Andrew
Manze and Ton Koopman. Since then he has performed with many
important European baroque musicians throughout the continents.
From 1998-2003 he was a member and leader of Europa Galante
under the direction of Fabio Biondi performing throughout
Europe, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the Americas. "With
technical perfection and clarity of articulation, Fabio Biondi
and Lorenzo Colitto, principal violins, provided variety and
richness of sound [...] Biondi and Colitto demonstrated their
solo skills in Caldara's Sinfonia Concertata for two violins
and strings..." (Kieler Nachrichten, 2002).
He frequently appeared between 1999 and 2002 as concertmaster,
soloist and director of The New York Collegium, leading programs
under the direction of Fabio Biondi, Reinhard Goebel, Andrew
Parrott, Eduardo Lopez-Banzo and Bernard Labadie. He has appeared
as guest leader with ensembles such as Orchestra del Teatro
di Cagliari, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, European Union Baroque
Orchestra, Accademia Bizantina, Al Ayre Español, Elyma
and Orchestra Italiana dell'Opera Classica.
In 2004 he was invited as conductor and soloist of the City
Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong.
His discography includes recordings released by labels such
as Virgin EMI, Harmonia Mundi, Opus 111, Tactus and Alpha.
